Project: Men's Boutique
E-Commerce App

e-commerce app

About the Project

This is an e-commerce app for a high-end men's boutique fashion line. The goal of this project was to present the brand’s items in a very simple and minimalistic way. Creating a positive user experience was achieved by keeping interactions to a minimum and have all of the clothing items and accessories presented in a way that the user would be able to view multiple items at once without having to scroll too much or click multiple links.

The Challenge

Most clothing and apparel websites are pretty similar in terms of the way they look. However, what sets the quality shops apart from the average is the experience they provide to the user. Every action the user takes in this app has a specific outcome related to that action. There is no landing on a page and wondering what you should do next or wondering how to return to where you came from.
Many apparel sites & apps make it difficult for users to add items to their shopping cart without interrupting the shopping experience. There is also difficulty when a user is in the shopping cart screen and they try to continue shopping. Often times, the user is sent back to a main screen or home screen as opposed to the specific items or category they user was looking at previously. Allowing a user to make a very simple and quick purchase is at the forefront of the experience I tried to create. Checkouts are often the most cumbersome processes. That process has been streamlined here.

My Approach

Throughout this process I kept referring back to my research and experiences in using and building similar apps. I was mindful of what the app is doing in relation to my actions and what I think the app should do to provide the best experience. I made adding items to the shopping cart very simple and quick. Navigating the app should be a very seemless and thoughtless process. The user is now able to browse without having to worry or think about what might happen next while limiting the number of interactions needed to achieve the desired outcome.

I researched a large number of related apps in this industry to get a better idea of how they market to their customers. While the retail e-commerce industry has an overall look to it, the experiences vary widely based on the company. I wanted to eliminate the uncertainty and pain points people might have about using an app like this.

The overall look is very minimalistic and classy and provides a feeling of quality and trustworthiness.
Don't you hate when you add items to your cart and the app sends you back to the main screen?!

Why not just go back to the previously viewed items?!
